Columbia, MO — April 8, 2002 — FairCom Corporation announced that a new generation of their popular c-tree Plus data management system is now available. This technology forms the foundation upon which new features and programming interfaces into the core technology will be built. This first formal release of FairCom's new V7 line includes several significant new features including HUGE files, segmented files, Unicode support, and enhanced platform support. HUGE files allow data and index files to support up to 18,000,000 terabytes of data. It gives the c-tree developer the ability to create files larger than the previous limit of 4 gigabytes. If the underlying operating system does not support files greater than 4 gigabytes, then FairCom's segmented file support can be used to permit a logical file to be transparently spread across two or more physical files. Each physical file itself may then be up to 4 GB. Segmented files can also be used in situations where the total size of the file exceeds the capacity of the individual physical storage device because this file segment logic allows a data or index file to span multiple physical files and/or disk drives.

HUGE and segmented file support were first introduced in FairCom's client/server models last year, and are now available with the peer-to-peer models available in c-tree Plus. "FairCom's HUGE and segmented file support has opened a powerful new venue for developers to harness the processing potential of the newer 64-bit CPU architecture used by the latest generation of operating systems," explains Randal Hoff, FairCom's Director of Business Development. The new release of c-tree Plus also includes enhanced Unicode support. It incorporates four new Unicode field types for storing UTF8 and UTF16 data, a new "extended key segment" mode to accommodate Unicode key segments, and support for Unicode file names. Unicode is an effort to standardize the representations of all languages and incorporates the characters of all the major government standards for ideographic characters.

c-tree Plus also now offers direct support for Microsoft's Windows CE and the latest release of QNX — QNX RTP operating systems. The efficiency of the compact c-tree Plus engine, coupled with its flexible API, has made it a popular choice for embedded developers. FairCom's database technology powers many embedded systems, particularly in the industrial, medical-equipment, telephony and aerospace fields. With a consistent API across all platforms, developers can easily adapt c-tree Plus applications from other platforms for use on Windows CE, QNX and the other embedded operating systems supported by c-tree Plus.

The features introduced in this new release expose the shear scalability offered by c-tree Plus. It spans the breadth of development projects from small-footprint embedded applications to large enterprise-wide systems with terabytes of data. This wide-ranging support ensures that c-tree Plus can satisfy the database needs of developers regardless of the size of the project. c-tree Plus V7.11 is priced at $895 with full source code, development servers, and development ODBC and native Seagate™ Crystal Report Drivers. Both ODBC and Crystal Report drivers now include support for HUGE and segmented files. c-tree Plus supports both peer-to-peer development and client/server development for their powerful database server— the c-tree Server. Full support for over 30 platforms from Windows and Mac to Unix is included with each package. FairCom created Access Manager for Digital Research in 1979 and released its first true application development tool, the original c-tree file handler, that same year. Today c-tree Plus is running in over 100 CPU/OS environments in more than 100 countries worldwide. FairCom technology is embedded in software utilized by such noted companies as Computer Associates, Federal Express, and Software AG.
