Columbia, MO — February 27, 2001 — FairCom® Corporation announced the latest release of its FairCom ODBC Driver, version V3.10, in both 16 bit and 32 bit models. Both drivers support full read/write capabilities, enhanced file opening, and are threadsafe.
This version of the FairCom ODBC Driver can also read and update huge files, greater than 4 gigabytes, created by the FairCom Server. "FairCom has implemented huge file support in a recent version of the FairCom database Server," explains Randal Hoff, FairCom's Director of Business Development. "This new release of our ODBC driver allows users to access and update these files that can store up to 18,000,000 terabytes of data in a single file."
Additionally, the new FairCom ODBC Driver is fully integrated, allowing both of the new FairCom ODBC drivers and the FairCom Crystal Reports» driver to share DLLs. Allowing Drivers to share DLLs simplifies implementation by limiting the number of files on disk. FairCom Driver SDK developers need only develop one custom DLL for all three Drivers. All three drivers can share FairCom Driver SDK custom DLLs.
In client/server mode, the FairCom ODBC Driver supports SPX, TCP/IP and Netbios communication protocols. Other features include: a dictionary creation option, which allows the user to browse and select the files they wish to use; OEM to ANSI data conversion; debug settings; padding for fixed length strings; and full online help files.
Jeff Krall, Project Manager for the FairCom ODBC Driver, said, "Since the initial release in 1995, FairCom's ODBC Driver has been implemented in several vertical market accounting and school automation packages with customer bases in the tens of thousands. This high level interface has proven to be a great benefit to these customers and the FairCom customer base at large."
FairCom also offers a new Driver SDK which extends the functionality of the FairCom ODBC Driver, allowing the programmer to intercept c-tree Plus records before writing to disk and before displaying to the user by building a custom
c-tree Plus dynamic link library (DLL). This allows the programmer to perform any special data manipulation as required by their application including supporting special data types, performing custom sorts/calculations, etc. The FairCom ODBC record intercept and data-type conversion routines are provided in full C source. FairCom also offers an ODBC Driver for the original c-tree 4.X release, still widely used as an embeddable file handler in industries ranging from finance and medical record management to embedded process controls.
FairCom introduced its highly portable file handler c-tree in 1979 and released its first portable data server in 1988. FairCom now markets its technology worldwide for use in vertical market applications, embedded systems and OEM licensing, including in Computer Associates CA-Realia® product line and Rockwell Software's RSLogix Frameworks».
The FairCom ODBC Driver retails for $99.00 per driver, licensed per machine, with quantity discounts applicable. Commercial distribution pricing is also available.
