Columbia, MO — March 16, 2000 — FairCom Corporation today announced the release of a native Crystal Reports™ driver which allows users of Seagate Software's Crystal Reports to directly access FairCom c-tree Plus File Handler data files. The FairCom® Crystal Reports™ Driver strengthens FairCom's focus to open access to FairCom's robust database technology - the c-tree Plus File Handler and the FairCom database Server.
"FairCom's native driver for Crystal Reports is the latest example of database vendor support to our direct Application Program Interface," said Tony Bautista, vice president of worldwide OEM sales for Seagate Software. "FairCom's implementation is well done and better serves both FairCom and Seagate Software customers."
"FairCom has offered the FairCom ODBC Driver for several years," according to Randal Hoff, Manager of Commercial Products for FairCom Corporation. "While FairCom's ODBC Driver is optimized for performance, there are additional translation layers necessary with the ODBC interface. By programming directly to the Crystal Reports API, FairCom has been able to offer performance gains over traditional ODBC queries."
FairCom has strategically developed the FairCom Crystal Reports Driver to support applications developed with all operational models of c-tree Plus and the FairCom Server. "With the widespread popularity of the c-tree Plus technology, there is an estimated install base of 25 million + seats that are potential users of this technology", adds Hoff.
FairCom released the original c-tree file handler in 1979. Today c-tree Plus is running in over 100 CPU/OS environments in more than 98 countries worldwide. Corporations like Computer Associates and Sharp Corporation have embedded FairCom's c-tree Plus within vertical market products and licensed its Server technology for OEM uses.
The FairCom Crystal Reports Driver is sold in two configurations: stand-alone and client/server. Both configurations support any c-tree Plus or FairCom Server application with file information stored in the data file. The Driver retails for $99.00 with quantity and developer discounts available.
c-tree Plus is priced at $895 with full C source code, no royalties, 25+ free development Servers, and the Development ODBC and Crystal Report Drivers. Full support for over 25 platforms from Windows to Mac is included with each package.
