Files Created in c-treeACE Now Include Extended Headers by Default

c-treeACE extended (Xtd8) file headers enable many valuable features required in today's advanced applications. These include:

  • HUGE File Support (ctFILEPOS8)
  • Segmented Files (ctFILESEGM)
  • Encryption (ctNOENCRYPT)
  • Transaction Dependent Creates and Deletes (ctTRANDEP)
  • Restorable Deletes (ctRSTRDEL)
  • Disabled Space Management (ctADD2END)
  • 6-Byte Transaction Numbers (ct6BTRAN)

As high transaction volume systems become a commonplace environment for c-treeACE Servers, the need for reliable transaction numbers has become ever more critical. As a result, 6-Byte Transaction Numbers are now the default for new files created with c-treeACE. This change nearly guarantees transaction numbers will never run out unexpectedly, requiring administrative maintenance and server downtime.

To enable this support requires Xtd8 headers. Thus, all files will default to having extended headers. c-treeACE can detect version differences between clients and servers in most instances and properly handle which features are supported. Having these headers in place may also eliminate some errors users had in rebuilding and compacting files that previously took advantage of these file attributes.

Legacy Applications Using Low-Level API Calls

The addition of the extended headers by default can cause some incompatibilities with existing applications using Low-Level file creates. This default can be disabled with the following configuration keyword:

COMPATIBILITY REVERT_TO_V6HDR

"I feel bad I have spent so many years using Btrieve with all their limitations. Lots of money I now would have rather spent on FairCom!"
