Q: Can I use an ODBC Driver with my c-tree application?

In many cases a c-tree ODBC driver is available and can be obtained directly from your application vendor. Your best source of information will be the original vendor who supplied your c-tree application and you should contact them. As c-tree database technology is very flexible, the developer can take advantage of many c-tree features for the data management portion of the application that directly affects ODBC access. Providing ODBC support requires a complete understanding of the underlying application, and as such, your vendor is your best source of support.

For some applications, you MUST obtain the driver from your original application vendor as they may have specific customizations required to properly access your data. In addition, some application EULAs (End User License Agreements) prohibit direct modification of the data produced by the application. This is to protect the integrity of the data as modifying data outside of the application could cause catastrophic damage to the relational integrity of the tables and void any support agreements with your vendor.

Q: Is my data compatible with a c-tree ODBC Driver?

The c-tree ODBC Driver requires certain resources to access c-tree data files. Normally, your vendor can provide an updated application to add the required resources. Otherwise, the end user must create them. To determine if your data file has the required resources, please download our ODBC Driver Information Kit, which contains documentation and executable utilities to help you obtain the information you need.

Q: Which ODBC Driver do I need?

If you are using a c-treeSQL Server, or the c-treeACE database engine, contact your application vendor for the correct version of the <FC_PRDO_ACE> SQL ODBC Driver.

To use the c-tree Plus ODBC Edition, the data file must have been created by c-tree Version 6 or higher.

If you have a data file created from c-tree Version 4, you will need the ODBC Driver c-tree Version 4 Edition.

To determine what version of c-tree was used to create your data file, please run the ct_ver utility found in the ODBC Driver Information Kit. Follow the direction in the information kit to determine your c-tree file version.

Q: Do you have an evaluation version of the c-tree ODBC Driver?

Yes. Our evaluation version allows users to export the first few rows and truncating text fields. Please contact us to obtain the c-tree ODBC Driver evaluation version to test if it will successfully export your data files before purchasing the Driver.

Q: How do I purchase the c-tree ODBC Driver?

Provided your data file is a valid c-tree file and has all the required resources, the c-tree ODBC Driver will be able to read that data file for you. Again, it is recommended that you first contact your original application vendor. Only the original application architects are in the best position to provide ODBC support and, for many applications, already have the appropriate driver available for purchase directly through them.

If you have contacted the vendor and they could not provide you with the ODBC Driver, and you have verified the validity of your c-tree data files for ODBC access with the ODBC Driver Information Kit, please call your nearest FairCom office to arrange purchase of the c-tree ODBC driver.
